Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

It's more than a month after Christmas and finally it starts to look like winter. Because of the low temperature it has been feeling like winter but snow has been missing, now it look's like that it's finally coming! Just now outside it's looking like this.

Inside, on the other hand, it's looking like this.

Drinking coffee and eating sweets is the only decent thing to do!

Pony tail time

Again, running against the clock in the morning, I only had little time to spent with my hair. So then it's pony tail time, especially when it's freezing cold outside.

This proved to be a super good style for everything I was doing today, now when I'm going to bed it still looks the same!

Easy fix

Today I wanted something simple for my hair, something that would  look appropriate the whole day underneath a hat, at home and at child's gym glass in the evening. So pony with a braid was perfect solution.

Toilet paper curls

I wanted to try out my old favorite, toilet paper curls.  I get my hair to look like this if in the evening I tie my hair to knots with toilet paper and then go to sleep. Morning I open the knots and this is the result.

Just like this curls are quite wild and they really do not fit underneath my hat so this is what I did with the hair for the day.

Copycat

Today I just had to do it, copy a style. So today's style is tribute to my friend Pirita, my most devoted commentator.

She had almost the same exact hairstyle last time we met and she also wore her glasses. And she looked great! Maybe a little bit of her style rub on to me when I wear my hair similar way? And these are actually my glasses, they are my reading glasses, so now a days I don't get wear them so much since the children don't leave me so much time to read.

End of the week

Here is today's style, I made a one side bun from all of my hair to the right side. 

To me it kind of look's like Princess Leia hairstyle from Starwars, but only one side of the head. In the end this hairstyle did not survive the daily outdoorsy actions and end of the day I wore my hair open.

Rehearsing continues, dutch braid vol 2

Today I wore my hair open and straight, nothing new there to anyone. In the evening I remembered my dutch braid project and here is the result.

I wanted just to rehearse how to make the braid and that is easiest to do when you see what you are doing. So  I braided my front hair from the both sides and pinned them behind my ear. I quite like this look. might wear it more often now that I know how to do it.

Swinging sixties

Tribute to different era's seems to be continuing. After taking this picture I looked at it and the stripe shirt and ball inspired bun looked vaguely like something from 60's. Maybe it would have needed some black eyeliner to go with it too?

Channeling 90's

I seem to be influenced by good old times this week, today I really felt like I traveled back in time to 90's with my hair band style. 

Luckily my hair band was not one of those shiny satin buffed ones. I use to have one back in the days, by the way.

Back in time

The other evening I watched a movie which took place in the 1940's and admired the hairstyles of that age. I was inspired by the finger curls and I wanted to try to bring that hairstyle to this age.
.

What I did was a curled pony tail with two big finger curls on both sides of side parting. If I would have been going somewhere I might have even added red lipstick, just to honor my inspiration. 

Something borrowed

Today I made a small experiment with my extension clips, I was trying to make a bun out of braid on top of my head. I wanted to add some extensions so that braid would be a little bit thicker and longer. A small problem with my extensions is that they are blond with a red hue, and ends of my hair are golden blond, not the same color at all.  My hair is high lighted and the two hair colors would mix in a braid so I was thinking my experiment might work after all.

What happened is that it did not work out the way I wanted, the extensions were too short, too difficult to attach into a pony tail and I had too little time. In the end the bun looked like this.

You can't really see that it's made from a braid and I needed heavily to pin it up. Good thing is that  the two hair colors are not too obvious. It also lasted quite well an hour hike under a hat!

Tie a knot

This is what I made out of my ponytail today. It lasted surprisingly well under a hat, that seems to be one of the top priorities these days. It was near by -20 Celcius degrees today so I need to have a hat when I go outside, hair must be done accordingly.

Hair out of the way

Sometimes you just need to get your hair done quickly. So you brush it, tie it in a knot and then it's ready. That's what happened today, guess that's enough said for this hairstyle!

Somebody's always first

I'm proud to present my first Guest Star! 

 

My friend has a party today and she asked me to help her with her hair. Here is the result. I would have liked to have few more braids in between the hair sections but in the end I was in a hurry and needed to settle for just a little bit more simpler version. Nevertheless, I hope my friend had wonderful evening!

We ended up spending the day with a friend family at their place, day was so relaxing without the usual cooking and cleaning. With so much to do in the day I got pretty tired, you might see it in my picture.

Time to have some chocolate

My baby girl has gotten a flu and thus I cant take her outside. This means that my two year old was climbing up and down the walls by the end of the day. This is one of those days when I was grateful for my lovely neighbors, who came to play with us, and my husband who brought me pizza - and chocolate!

You can imagine that I did not have loads of time for my hair, so I just quickly pinned it up in a bun.

Now when both children are more or less a sleep it's my time and I'm going to make sure there no chocolate left for tomorrow!

Sunshine!

We have had few beautiful, sunny winter days in a row and this sudden sunlight makes me feel like it's almost spring even though there is snow outside.

To get even more a sunny feeling I wore my new, yellow cardigan and let my hair hang loose and straight today. And for a moment spring was only step away!

Wear Your Wedding Dress - Day

I heard that today in Finland is Wear Your Wedding Dress -Day. The idea is to put on your wedding gown and have fun, you don't get so  many changes in you life to wear it anyway. I got immediately excited and combined this special day to my hair challenge. In my wedding three years ago my hair looked like this.

Today at home and only with my own hair I wanted to try something different.

Dutch braid, vol 1

There seems to be something wrong in blogger, this should have been published 13.1.2014!

Dutch braid episode yesterday started to bother me so I decided that today would be good day to practice. So here it is, my dutch braid, the only type I can do. One can clearly see that some practice is still needed before I master this skill. But who knows, maybe practice makes me perfect in the end?

Winter wonderland

My blog seems to become a weather blog as well. But I can't help myself because winter has finally arrived! When I got up the thermometer showed  -16 celsius and that to me was a promise of a beautiful, sunny winter day. The day was indeed like that.

So this was my look for the, in these temperatures you just cant make it without a hat!

Frustrating dutch braid!

I confess, I just can't make a  dutch braid. I try and try and most of the time it becomes a big tangled mess. It's almost embarrassing, I think I can do lot's of cool stuff with hair but dutch braid, no. I'm aiming that the end of this year I will master that skill. You can see some pictures of my learning curve but let's leave that to some other day, today's try was so pathetic. 

What I was about to do was a dutch braid from my neck to the top of my head and tie the rest of the hair to a knot. In the end this is what I managed to do. Well, this hair was very suitable for gym.

Sweet Saturday

Weekend, finally! It's just so great when the whole family is free and we can do stuff together. Equally nice is that sometimes my husband takes the children and I can enjoy the some peace and quiet just by myself.

Today there was no time for me-time but even doing the normal chores was relaxing. And while shopping we decided to have a nice afternoon tea with cakes and all, that was literally the sweet part of the day. 

As a result I also have sweet curly hair, but actually only now I see that the parting is not totally in the middle, that was the original purpose. Well, I need to concentrate better next time.

What to do with your hair when you have no time?

I guess everyone has their go-to hairstyle, it's that hairstyle what you wear when you are out of ideas or really in a hurry. Lately, these kind of buns have became my savior when I need to look neat quickly. They are quick and easy to do and with a little bit of imagination I can create all sorts of up-do's with the same basic idea.

Today was not really any kind of special day, it was just so gloomy and dark even in the morning that I wanted to cheer myself with an up-do and perky cardigan. I think I managed to do a pretty good job!

Wild and free

I'm currently on maternity leave, which in Finland quite long, nine moths approximately. I'm going to stay home at least 1,5 years. That's a long time in career orientated world. Even though the days most of the time repeat themselves when I'm taking care of my children, I still sometimes get a feeling that I'm totally free, I can do what I want! It's an exiting feeling and I felt it again today. 

I think a friend who visited today, got me thinking this, she an example of a person who has taken a charge of her life and made it something she loves. That's admirable.

Even though I have a hunch that I'm not really going to do anything totally wild with my life, like travel to other side of the world to save endangered species or start ultra running, it's a nice feeling to have that I could do those things, if I only wanted. Maybe I dye my hair black or red, that might be the next wild thing in context of this blog.

Grey weather,grey sweater

To me it seems that it's been raining every day at least a month, I cannot remember the last time I've seen the sun. Usually at this time of year there should be snow and even though I'm not the biggest fan of winter, I'm starting to miss the piles of snow, at least it makes everything much lighter. I have my hopes up for the weekend, they are promising a snowfall for Friday, let's see if that's true or not!

I did not have any time to do the hair today, both children were screaming at my feet, you might see it on the look on my face. I was actually doing a simple one sided braid but it looked so sad so I turned it to a bun.

Hat, a disaster or a challenge?

Here in Finland hat at this time of year is a necessity. It's not really cold yet, we still have plus degrees at least in the daytime, but if one aims to spent few hours outside every day in the rain and breeze, one must wear a hat. And thanks to my children, I'm quite outdoorsy now-a-days.

But what happens to your hair when you do wear a hat? This.

If anyone has tips how to not tp let picture one disaster happen, I'm more than willing to listen to those advise!

Good hair day - maybe, good pictures - not!

I started this blog to demonstrate that I can have nice looking hair ever day. We can have different opinions if my hair looks good or not but I'm sure we all agree that pictures are not so good. I'm already tired of taking the pictures in my dark bathroom via mirror, I need to come up with some solution to this problem. Maybe I can train my two-year-old to take pictures?

Sunday at home

Today has been such a day that it took me until two a clock in the day until I even got to brush my hair. And I got up at nine. Reason is of course the children and never ending household work. Today was not different from any other day, I just feel that if I want to keep the house clean, food on the table and children in clean clothes and diapers this sometime means that I have less time for myself. I guess every mother knows the feeling.

So when I finally had time to think about my hair this was the result.

Parting in the middle, loose cinnabun in the back and one rope braided section on both sides. Sunday style is ready!

New, better life

Isn't it so that at New Year everyone starts their new, better life -every year?  People start exercising, stop smoking and drinking and swear, that their life will be totally different the coming year. I did not make any promises for this year except to start this blog,  one could say that this is year my new years resolution.

After having a feast of Christmas food and chocolate for the last two weeks I felt today that more traditional way of starting new year could suit me as well, I was desperate to hit the gym! My hair today was inspired by this thought, a neon strap around the head and a high twisted bun and I was ready to burn those calories off!

And  by the way, that new life what everyone starts, I once heard it apparently only lasts approximately eight weeks.

Last day of x-mas holiday

This Friday was officially the last holiday day of the Christmas holiday for many people in Finland. We decided to celebrate it by meeting our friends, one couple at breakfast and one other at lunch. This meant that we had a busy morning in the city.

Children kept me up in the night so I was out of ideas in the morning and decided to go for quick curls. Here is the result.

 

Play time!

Today's wake up was not so glamorous one, I woke up when my baby through up on me! Well, that' life, I guess. We had my sisters boy having a sleep over and in the morning we decided to go to near by indoor play ground, we were there most of the day. 

I decided that day in the play ground asks for a  sporty hair style so I came up with this.
