Little ones

We went to a birthday party Saturday and this four year old young lady let me braid her hair. I went for a style I saw that day in Instagram, heart with a ponytail inside and two dutch braids from both sides to one simple braid. I was told she loved being photographed!

And then, for the first time, I managed to do some sort of hair style for my own little daughter. She is now 13 months old so I hope soon I get to do all sorts of braids for her! I did a small dutch braid on the front and secured it with a pin. Then she has two pig tails. So cute. Lasted maybe ten minutes.

Family affair

Today was the last kind of busy day hairwise, tomorrow me and the rest of the family fly to Netherlands and we don't return until end of the year! I hopefully have a chance to post something also from abroad but I can't promise you anything.

Today's up do is a messy side bun with one pancaked dutch braid. My friend had her family photos taken and she wanted to have a simple style for it.

My favorite braid

The pull through braid just is my favorite. I had a change to do this to my friend today.

Festive time of year

Christmas time is of course always festive but even more so with all the birthday parties we are invited to. Today we celebrated first birthday of my friends little princess, she was just adorable! I made my friends hair for the party.

Princesses do exist!

This morning we were having a birthday party at our place for four one year olds, two girls and two boys, they all were cute as buttons! One of them was my little princess, she had one more party to enjoy her cake and cookies. Even though it was quite of an hassle with eight adults and 14 children I managed to braid this little princesses hair!

She was wearing light blue Disney princess dress so what would be more suitable than ribbon braid. The ribbon is actually light blue with pink dots in it so it matched the dress, too. I think the braid worked out pretty nicely and she seemed to be pretty pleased with it too!

Taking the braids abroad

This weekend has been fabulous! I went to a one night city break to Tallinn with three of my girlfriends, this was something I've been expecting  for the past half a year.   We girls try to do a trip like this every year but since we all have children and jobs it's not so easy to organize time away of from our families. When we get away, though, it's like we've never been apart, we talk and talk into the late night. We also had some pampering done in a spa and we visited a great restaurant. I feel like I'm a new woman again.

To me this was a weekend of braids, I made this dutch five strand pancaked braid for myself  both days.

I was also first time twinning with a bunch of other braiders in Instagram and for that I needed to do the style here. It's a dutch lace braid turning into a pull through braid, you can find all the creations under hashtag #dutchpullthroughtwin. I did this braid to one of my friends, she has the most beautiful hair color!

The picture in the right proves that we actually were in Tallin, here we are having some hot blue berry juice in the market square in Tallins Old Town. There was Christmas market there and we were sniffing the Christmassy atmosphere

There was one more braid I did, this is 3strand  pull through braid to one other of the girlfriends. Here it looks alright but unfortunately it did not survive the shopping!

Here comes the bride!

Today I got to do what so many self learned hair stylists secretly wish to do. I got to do an  up do for a bride. This was my first time ever doing brides hair so I was super exited about the opportunity and also a bit nervous.

This beautiful bride wanted to have  romantic and simple up do where all her hair is up. Her usual style is very sleek and natural. Also, they were celebrating they day with a small party so too festive hair would have not suited the occasion. Her hair is very thick and little bit wavy and it has ombre highlight in the ends.

After some consideration the bride decided that she wanted a bun and a braid on one side of her head. The braid was selected to be a four strand braid with one micro braid in it.

I think the style suits her very well, she must have been very beautiful bride! I hope their day was perfect and I wish them all the best in the future!

Christmas decorations and all

I've been a bit busy the whole weekend! Or at least that's how I feel like. I must admit that I got things done, we decorated the house for Christmas, I made a gingerbread house and few hairs and I also went to a church concert. A weekend well spent!

As I was keeping myself busy I didn't think of my own hair so much, I think I wore this hairstyle few times. I also had my hair open.

My friend here was the real (hair) star of the weekend. She let me do a bun hawk on her and she liked it, even though it turned out quite fancy! I really like how shiny her hair looks!

Xmas party time!

Today was an awesome hair day for me! I got the do the hair of these lovely ladies in the picture.

They are the colleagues of my husband and when we met earlier in the Autumn, I mentioned that I could do their hair if they had some special occasion. And now I got the change since it was their offices Christmas party! I'm so happy that they trusted me with their hair, doing the up do's felt like dream come true!

Then to the individual pictures. She wanted to have her hair in soft curls and half up, preferably over one shoulder. She had beautiful, shiny and sleek hair and we decided to add some volume to it with three clip on hairpieces. The highlights she has stand out beautifully in the braids in the back!

This girl was first asking for a curls which would be gathered to a bun on top of her head. To me she seemed more like a rock n roll kind of girl rather than the romantic type so after all we went for this more sleek bun style which compliments the beautiful color of her hair. Also the bow in the neck of her dress shows nicely in this one.

And last, but not least, the Evita look-a-like up do. She has the most beautiful hair in the world, blond, thick, shiny and all the way to the waist! I would love to braid this hair sometime! She wanted to have her hair all up, in a neat but not too sleek bun. I first went for basic pull through braid up do, but since she had so much hair it became this pull through up do with vintage vibe on it. It suited her very well!

High and low buns

Maybe you thought that high bun out of short hair is something impossible? Well, it's not! Of course my hair is not that short but it's not even shoulder length and the bun in here is quite high. Today I felt that I wanted to feel like I have long hair so that's why I choose this look. I really liked it.

I also had a chance to do a bun for one of my friends. It did not come out quite as I expected but we both liked it still.

Little star

My friend asked me to braid her little girls hair for the photo shoot in the kindergarten. This little princess, one of the sweetest girls I've ever known, had asked for a braid which goes "there and there and there and there", this instruction  was given while spinning a finger round and round. Her mother thought that maybe her own braiding skills wouldn't be quite enough for the there and there hair, so I was called in to help.

My first try as there and there hair was ever-so-famous starburst bun. I've tried to make this few times before and I've never succeeded. I anyway decided to give it a shot  again and I got it right this time!  Mother and the daughter liked it too, unfortunately it didn't survive the night so in the photo shoot she wore her hair open.

But like the saying goes, tomorrow is another day and lucky for me today I got to braid her hair again. This time, to make the hair last through night we decided to make the braids tighter and I added one more spin of braid around the head.  I'm curious to hear will this last until tomorrow!

Challenge with the pull through braids, 3strand and normal

My new favorite braid is pull through braid, I've loved it since I learned how to make it. I made a regular pull through braid for myself the other day.

I explained earlier how I love that this braid makes my hair looks so thick and full. And I like how my new hair color looks with it too!

From Instagram I've learned that you can also make a 3strand version of the pull through braid. There is one pictorial of how to make that, it's made by @prettylittlebraids. Most of the hair accounts that I follow have already made their version of the 3strand pull through braid and today I gave it a shot too. I didn't watch the pictorial before creating my own braid as I used the same technique I make the regular pull through braid with. My first 3strand version looked like this.

After making this braid and watching the pictorial I realized that my technique is totally different than in the existing pictorial. I use a hair lasso to do the pull through braids. I even tried the 3strand version to myself since making these with hair lasso is so easy.

4-strand fun and first Xmas up do

Since I started to follow all the braiding accounts in Instagram I've been rehearsing to braid with multiple strands. I'm still rehearsing so most strands I've done is five. I'm most of the time only rehearsing to do four strand braids properly and finally I think I got it! Even the french versions of it!

Here is the braid I did to myself last night while brushing my teeth

And this is a pancaked version for my friend today.

My other friend had a Christmas party today (already!) and I made this quick and messy bun for her.

Tuesday is the new Monday

Should have done my no heat curls yesterday but since I forgot, today is the new Monday.

I chose to do toilet paper curls this time. This is how I looked like when I went to sleep! I made quite a lot of hair parts and I twisted the hair into ropes before tying them into the toilet paper. I found this a little bumpy to sleep with but I managed and did not even get a head ache, which I get easily.

The curls, which came out, looked like this.

I wanted to wear my hair some what open so I only added a scarf. A real rock star look!

I also tried to do something with my friends hair but I was totally out of ideas. I did three or four things before I made this messy celtic knot.
